Watch The New Hit Film Bounty Hunter The Movie

By Robert Meadows

There is a hot movie that is coming out to the movie theatre and we think that you might want to see it right now. This is the movie Bounty Hunter and there are many things that people who are going to see it have to say about this movie which many are talking about.

There are some of you out there who might not know what exactly a bounty hunter is. This would be a person who goes to bring in a fugitive on the run who is wanted by the police. There are many of them out there. They get a rather large fee for doing this as well. For those who have a knack for adventure, this is just the job for them.

Now, that you know what a bounty hunter does, you will find that there are many reasons for why people are being hunted down. One of them reasons is as we said before; they do not appear in the court when they are due there. This is the case for this guy who has to locate his next person in order to make his money.

Many people think that it is hard work to be a bounty hunter, and they are right. This bounty hunter learns just how hard it is when he finds out that there is someone out there who is after his ex is now after him. It will really keep you on the edge of your seat when you see how many obstacles they run into. It kept us on ours.

While this couple is on the run, they are also on edge as they learn that they still cannot get together. Yet, like many movies that Jennifer Aniston is in, her character shines right through as you laugh your way through this movie. You will be dying of laughter when you go to watch this one.

Now, we have read the reviews. We have heard what everyone is saying about the movie. They are saying that everyone is really hyping this movie up. However, you will find that in many cases this is right and it might be right in this case as well. Yet, you then again after all you have to look at the parental rating. It is PG13. So, it might be lacking a few things after all.

With Jennifer Aniston, you will find that in many cases, you will laugh like crazy even if the plot is missing a little something. It is something that we love about her and it is something that we encounter when we watch something of hers. She does add something to those movies that make you die of laughter at moments and here again, she does the same thing as she gets herself in one of the weirdest positions possible.

So, if you are looking for a movie to go to, then this might be the one for you. If you have been waiting to see a movie that you can take the teenage kids to, then this might have been the one that you are looking for. There are many who have waited for this and have found it to be the type of movie to watch when they are stuck on what new to see. - 42531

Things To Learn About Mixed Media

By Phillip Guye

What we know today as mixed media art began in early 20th century, when artists looking for an alternative to what they saw as hidebound academicism began including items as well as photos that were not considered to be art materials in their works. Samples of everyday items being incorporated into ceremonial or visual objects is available dating back to prehistory, but these have been created with distinctive reasons, and functioned a very different social role as opposed to the things we consider as "art."

Mixed media art is known as a broad categorical term used to encompass several art and craft ventures. Ventures including sculptures, paintings, collages, 2-D and 3-D assemblages, modified items and book making are just a couple of exceptional ventures to work with with mixed media art. Most objects are used in mixed media art creations, including but is not limited to, paint, papers, found items, adhesive, old jewelry, buttons, nails, bolts, screws, pictures, clays, pencils, pens, markers and more. A basic mixed media project is a collage created from found objects.

When creating a painted or photographed work applying mixed media it is very important choose the layers carefully and let sufficient drying period between the layers to guarantee the finished work is going to have consistency. If many different media are used it's evenly important to select a durable foundation upon which the different layers are imposed. Many interesting effects may be accomplished by making use of mixed media. Commonly, found objects are used in conjunction with traditional artist materials, like paints and graphite, to express a message in the everyday living. In doing this, numerous elements of art become more versatile than with conventional artist media.

The good thing about mixed media art would be the versatility to start with things around you and widen after that. To get going you need a substrate or base. This could be a tidy sheet of paper, sketchbook, a cereal box or everthing else that may be sitting still. After that, if you are heading down the collage path, you will require something to stick with (glue sticks are great to begin with) and something to stick on (colored papers, newspapers, brochures, and anything else that grabs you).

Another appealing characteristic of mixed media art is that you don't need fine art or drawing skills. That doesn't imply you are excluded from mixed media art if you have these skills, but it opens up a world of creative imagination for the rest of us who like to create things but can't draw. The relevant skills you need to get started are as simple as having the ability to work with a pen, scissors and adhesive. These skills will expand and develop with more experience, depending on which "branch" you pursue. More complex skills of mixing paints and developing your "artist eye" will occur as you broaden your own creativity. Specific skills for particular media or art types will display themselves as you move into these aspects. As with other areas of life, the techniques and teachers will appear when you're prepared. - 42531

The Mapes Hotel: Reno's Lost Art Deco Jewel

By Ross Everett

The Mapes Hotel in Reno, Nevada met its demise on Superbowl Sunday of 2000 when 75 pounds of explosives packed inside the structure's support columns brought it to the ground. The controlled demolition came despite years of effort by a number of groups within the community to preserve the building with lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots lobbying efforts. The National Trust for Historic Preservation even took up the cause, challenging the destruction in a lawsuit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court.

While the efficacy and justification of demolishing the Mapes is debatable, one thing that is not is the glorious history of the hotel. It was built in'47, and signaled the start of the modern era of casino gambling. Despite the notoriety of Bugsy Siegel and the Flamingo in Las Vegas, it was the Mapes that became the first building in the nation to have a hotel, casino and live entertainment under one roof. It also became the hotel of choice for celebrities staying in Northern Nevada. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe stayed at The Mapes during the filming of 'The Misfits'. Joseph McCarthy, America's famed anti-Communist crusader, admitted to a reporter over cocktails in the Mapes Lounge that he really didn't have a list of Communists in the US despite his frequent and vitriolic insistence to the contrary.

In the 50s and 60s it became, along with Lake Tahoes Cal-Neva Lodge the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The top floor, window-walled Sky Room showcased performances by the legends: Sinatra, Louis Prima, Mae West, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the Marx Brothers among others. Subsequent years were not kind to downtown Reno but the Mapes prospered during the 60's and 70's. The hotel finally closed in'82, due more to financial difficulties experienced by the Mapes family caused by one of their other Northern Nevada gaming properties than anything else.

Reno has yet to experience the sort of growth that has been seen in Southern Nevada, and for that reason the destruction of the Mapes is more open to debate than the hotel demolitions to the south. Even the demolition of The Sands--perhaps the most historically significant casino in the state--is hard to argue against given the inability of such a small property to compete in the current Las Vegas marketplace and in light of the value of the mid-strip real estate.

This is not the case in Reno, where land and buildings for development in virtually every casino area are abundant. The official reason that the Mapes had to come down was that the city needed the land--which sits along the banks of the Truckee River--to expand its riverside district of art galleries, restaurants and shops. The revitalization of downtown Reno is definitely needed and a legitimate goal, but at the same time it is hard to think that the Mapes was a barrier to this. Indeed, a number of proposals for redevelopment including office space, artists lofts and upscale senior housing would have probably served to enhance the livability of the downtown area. For whatever reason, the City Redevelopment Authority wouldn't approve any of the proposals and the fate of the Mapes was sealed.

The role of the City Redevelopment Authority was questioned throughout the process. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was on a prime location between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. A number of sound financial proposals were presented that would preserve the integrity of the structure including condominiums, office space, and perhaps most viable, upscale senior apartments. Oddly, all of these proposals were turned down by the citys Redevelopment Agency which continued to maintain that demolition was the only viable option despite copious evidence to the contrary.

Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The site now houses a permanent ice skating rink which, while not a bad use for the land, isn't the sort of game changing improvement suggested by the City Redevelopment Agency and their adamant insistence that the building be demolished. To the contrary, it appears they had no specific plan or even general idea of what to do with the land but for some reason wanted to see the hotel come down. This has led to all manner of speculation, ranging from financial self interest to a rumor that the structure was 'haunted' and needed to be destroyed to forestall future paranormal activity in Washoe County. Whatever the reason, the city of Reno lost a valuable landmark that played a significant part in the economic growth of the entire state. - 42531

Lions Back On Winning Track With CFL Win Over Roughriders

By Ross Everett

The BC Lions may have turned the corner after a disappointing 1-4 start to the CFL season. This past weekend, a clearly motivated Lions team defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 35-20 to improve to 2-4 in CFL play. The Roughriders dropped to 3-3 in the early going in the CFL season.

Lions defensive end Brent Johnson said that the motivation for this game was simple--his team was just sick of losing:

"We were sick of losing. That was our only option - to win tonight. This was the must wins of must wins."

Johnson led a tenacious Lions defense with three QB sacks. Overall, the BC stop unit combined for five QB sacks and three interceptions in their best performance of the season.

Lions running back Martell Mallett caught one touchdown pass, ran for another and generally made himself a problem for the Riders defense all night. After the game, he credited the play of his offensive line:

"We just went out there and executed. The offensive line blocked well. I was just hitting the holes. They opened it for me and I got in it."

BC starting QB Buck Pierce had been hearing some criticism from the Vancouver media suggesting that he lose his starting spot. His solid play in the victory may have turned down the heat for now:

"I was very proud of our offence tonight. "The way we stayed poised, the way we moved the ball. Running and throwing the ball, we were very good."

His Saskatchewan counterpart Darian Durrant blamed the loss on his teams lack of execution and failure to capitalize on opportunities:

"It was frustrating. B.C. gave us plenty of opportunities to put more points on the board. We just didn't capitalize."

Despite the much needed win, Lions coach Wally Buono realizes that his team still has plenty of work to do:

"We have to play much better football than what we did. I saw the intensity that you need, I see the resilience and I saw some guys make some plays."

BC now heads to Toronto to play the struggling Argonauts on Thursday. Saskatchewan will host the Hamilton Tiger Cats. - 42531

The Story Of 1977 Triple Crown Winner Seattle Slew

By Ross Everett

Seattle Slew--the last living Triple Crown winner--died on May 7, 2002 at the age of 28. As one of only 11 Triple Crown winners in history, he is by default one of the greatest horses in the history of thoroughbred racing. Of those 11 legendary animals, Seattle Slew was the only one to complete the Triple Crown with an undefeated record, as well as the only one to have been purchased at a public auction. After retiring in'78, Slew became one of the most important and successful stud horses in the history of the sport. He sired 1,066 foals including 102 stakes race winners. Among this impressive group of offspring was the'84 Kentucky Derby winner, Swale. All told, Slew's offspring have won an amazing $76 million dollars at the race track. Slew's stud fee of $300,000 made him a very profitable horse even after his racing career was over. Slew wasn't a particularly attractive horse, but he had the toughness of a championship boxer and the sort of intestinal fortitude and desire that can only be given by The Creator.

The Seattle Slew story began very modestly at a public auction in Lexington, Kentucky. The Keeneland Summer Yearling sale wasn't supposed to be the marketplace of champions, and the idea that this particular horse would ever amount to anything other than a farmhand was downright laughable. He was somewhat clumsy looking due to a front right forefoot splay and had a shuffling gait at trot. Slew wasn't a beautifully majestic creature like his Triple Crown winning predecessor, Secretariat. Slew was borderline ugly. So ungainly a creature was he that he was given the less than inspiring nickname "Baby Huey" by the Keeneland staff. He was purchased by two couples (Karen and Mickey Taylor and Jim and Sally Hill) for $17,500. What wasn't apparent at the yearling sale was the intangibles that make up a championship thoroughbred--poise under pressure, love of competition, toughness, heart and desire. His owners had unwittingly stumbled onto an equine Muhammad Ali, and his competitive fire quickly became apparent to his trainers and jockeys. His first race came at Belmont Park in'76, and he entered--and won--three races as a two year old giving a glimpse as to what like ahead.

As a three year old, he quickly gained notice by winning his three Derby prep races, including the prestigious Wood Memorial. In the Derby, Slew got off to a terrible start as he stumbled from the gate much like War Emblem did in the 2002 Belmont. Unlike 2002's Triple Crown contender, however, Slew was able to recover from that miscue and basically force his way through a pack of other horses to position himself at the front of the field at the quarter mile pole. He went on to win the Derby by a length and 3 quarters. Another tough victory in the Preakness set up his Triple Crown winning run at the Belmont, which he won by 4 lengths.

Slew ran in a few races as a 4 year old but in the pre-Breeders' Cup days there wasn't as many opportunities for an older horse. He retired to stud in'78, where he sired champions such as the aforementioned Swale and'92 Belmont Champ AP Indy.

Slew may not have earned the appreciation he deserved in his prime, coming so closely on the heels of the charismatic'73 Triple Crown winner Secretariat--arguably the greatest thoroughbred race horse in history. The jockeys that rode him, however, understood fully what a special animal they were dealing with. Jockey Angel Cordero gave Seattle Slew this lofty praise: "If I had a chance to take any horse in the world, if someone said your life is depending on riding one horse to win, I would take (Slew). I rode 44,000 horses, but he was special, he was different. He was muscled, like a wrestler. He ran different than any other horse. It was like he came from another planet."

After his death in 2002, Slew was buried at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Lexington, Kentucky under a statue in his image. - 42531

MMA Flashback: Bobby Lashley Mauls Mike Cook At Maximum Fighting 21

By Ross Everett

Here's a word of advice to future opponents of Bobby Lashley--don't make fun of his background in professional wrestling. Mike Cook found that out the hard way in the co-main event of Maximum Fighting Championships MFC 21: Hard Knocks. After spending the run up to fight week making fun of Lashley's tenure in the WWE, Cook lasted a mere :24 seconds before being choked unconscious via a guillotine choke. The victory ran Lashley's record in his brief MMA career to 3-0.

Perhaps Cook felt he was creating some sort of self doubt in the former WWE superstar by suggesting that he was out of his element in a real fight, but he turned it up a notch at the weigh in and in his ring entrance by donning a Mexican Lucha Libre mask. In prefight interviews, Cook had suggested that Lashley would soil himself once he entered the ring (though in not so erudite terms). That clearly incensed the massive 64 250 pound Lashley, who despite his inexperience in MMA is hardly the sort of individual prone to losing bowel control at the prospect of a fight.

A smirking Cook attempted to tap gloves with Lashley before the fight, but his obviously insulted opponent would have none of it. Even after the opening bell rang, Cooks arrogant approach to the fight continued as he immediately clinched with his opponent as if he had no regard whatsoever for Lashleys strength. Lashley immediately locked in a guillotine choke and basically yanked Cook down to the mat by his head. Once on the canvas, Lashley cinched it in deeper as Cook flopped around"partially in an effort to escape, partially in an involuntary muscle reaction as he sunk into unconsciousness. Cook didn't even get the chance to tap out as veteran referee Big John McCarthy recognized he was out cold and pulled Lashley off of him.

After the fight Lashley gave his opponent a hug and flashed his trademark megawatt smile as if to say I told you so. In his postfight interview, however, he did slip in a final verbal jab toward his vanquished opponent, quipping that now Cook can go put the mask back on and have fun with himself'.

Despite the fact that mixed martial arts and professional wrestling have been interwoven from the beginning, the American Top Team trained Lashley has been singled out by less knowledgeable fans for his tenure in the WWE. Against his next opponent, Bob Sapp, hell be facing a foe that has also spent some time in the worked environment of professional wrestling. In addition to his legit fighting experience in K-1 and PRIDE, Sapp has worked for several Japanese pro wrestling organizations and briefly held the prestigious IWGP Championship. The IWGP title has been held by pro wrestling legends such as Keiji The Great Muta Mutoh, Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami, as well as reigning UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

Even though Sapp's days as a serious fighter are long past and he likely spends less time in the gym during a given year than Lashley does in a month, he does present an element of danger. Hes still got decent punching power, and his sheer bulk will be a challenge for Lashley who could give up as much as 100 pounds come fight night. Still, Sapp's only victories in several years have been against overmatched and/or outsized opponents. In his last fight against an opponent of similar stature he was destroyed in under a minute by Jan Nortje who entered the matchup with a 1-6 career MMA record. Sapp remains a hugely popular personality in Japan, however, and simply by fighting him Lashley's marketability in the lucrative Japanese fight sport market increases significantly. - 42531

Chiefs Top Swooning Redskins For First Win Of Season

By Ross Everett

The offensively struggling Kansas City Chiefs have finally found a way to win-play a team with a more stagnant offense than their own. The Chiefs gave Todd Haley his first win as a NFL head coach on Sunday with a---6 win over the Washington Redskins. Kansas City won despite not scoring a touchdown, compiling their-- points via 4 Ryan Succop field goals and a game ending safety. Kansas City is now 1-5 on the NFL season, while the Redskins slumped to 2-4.

To successfully bet on NFL football you occasionally have to put aside W/L records and look at the underlying statistics. Those who did that found reason to take Kansas City as +6' road underdogs and were rewarded with the outright victory. Kansas City is now 2-4 against the NFL pointspread and has covered two straight while Washington is a dismal 1-5 versus the money. The 20 combined points went well UNDER the posted total of 36'. The Redskins have gone UNDER in five of their six games this season, while Kansas City has curiously posted a NFL totals mark of 3-2-1 to the OVER despite not scoring more than 24 points in a game all season.

After the contest, Haley sounded more relieved than excited about finally putting a "W" on the board:

"We made it pretty difficult, right down to the end. We've pushed through a very difficult period. We needed to get some positive reinforcement with a win."

Kansas City QB Matt Cassel also won for the first time since coming over from New England in the off season. His postgame comments were more upbeat:

"There's been a lot of change, but this has definitely been special. We rose to the occasion. We made some big plays. We put ourselves in a position to score points."

Embattled Redskins' coach Jim Zorn was stripped of his offensive play calling duties by team management after the contest. In one of his last decisions in that role, he pulled starter Jason Campbell at halftime and went with Todd Collins. He explained his move as follows:

"I felt the need to create a spark on our football team offensively and went with Todd. I think the guys responded well. We kept our spark, at times, and then we refizzled."

The Redskins have managed to win only two of their first six games despite being the only team in NFL history to play their first six games of the season against winless opponents. They'll get another chance to silence their doubters next Monday night as they host the Philadelphia Eagles. The Skins are +6' home underdogs with the total set at 38'. They'll have a bye the next week and return to action on November 8th against the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome. Kansas City will try to string together back to back wins as they host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. There's currently no line on the game pending San Diego's Monday Night Football contest against the Denver Broncos. - 42531

The Romance History And Beauty Of The Greek Islands

By Wesley Mathews

Greeks have been a nautical people ever since the Bronze Age, three to four thousand years ago - and little wonder; there's greater than six thousand of them. However, just 227 of these islands have anybody existing on them, and less than 80 possess holiday rentals. These Greece beach vacation rentals are certainly worth checking out, however; if you want to get to understand the countryside and the people of this ancient nation, you will absolutely desire to go to the islands in the midst of its comfortable towns and relaxiing kafeneos. It is at the dining establishments that you'll taste amazing Greek food that you cannot acquire anyplace else, and also; these Greek isle seashores are amazingly romantic places, it's these tiny cafes that draw food fans and critics from round the globe.

A good place to start a tour of the Greek islands is within the eastern Aegean from romantic getaways such as bed and breakfasts on Chios, Psara or Lesbos. The latter (named in honor of a male deity, coincidently enough) is called the "Emerald of the Aegean."

This leafy island, enclosed with green green wooded areas comparable to all the trees found in Southern California, is home to the legendary Mount Olympus, where Bronze Age Greeks believed their gods to reside; the gigantic mountain towers nearly 3000 feet above the rest of the island. Lesbos is additionally home of one of the earth's only existing petrified forests. With a population of ninety-thousand and quite a few at least mediocre-sized towns, you'll have almost no problems finding Greece beach vacation rentals on the island.

Close by are the ancient islands of Chios and Psara, where the drama of the famous Greek War of Independence was battled against the Ottoman Turks in the 1820s. Chios, barely 7 miles from the Turkish shoreline, is home to the medieval monastery of Neamoni. Created almost 1000 years ago throughout Greece's late Byzantine phase, Neamoni is a chosen United Nations World Heritage Site. Chios is also a key shipping center, and has been so for 100's of years (it was here that an unknown Genovese business man known as Cristoforo Colombo got his start in the fourteen-seventies - better known in America as Christopher Columbus).

One of the most excellent of the Greek isles is Crete - also the largest. Crete was home to the Minoan civilization and the Palace of Knossos and its ancient Labyrinth, where the human-eating Minotaur was alleged to have lived. From Greek bed breakfasts next to Crete's magnificent seashores, site visitors to this isle may not bump into the cyclops - but are to be expected to be informed stories from the locals about a beast who is astoundingly comparable. Watch out for the triamades!

Other than that strange three-eyed monster, you'll soon see why Crete, with a mild conditions analogous to that of Southern California (temperatures aren't going to get any lower than 60 degrees and rarely get higher than the low eightees) is homeland to countless ex-pats from the colder weather of Northern Europe, especially the U.K. and Scandinavia. Like them, you'll learn a large amount about Crete that is exceptional and diverse from the rest of Greece, including its music, culture and most of all, cuisine. - 42531

Watch Good Episodes Of The Drew Carey Show

By Billie Campbell

The most important and innovative television series of the nineties was, without a doubt, Seinfeld. However, Drew Carey deserves recognition, as well, as one of the more innovative and inventive shows of that decade. People don't always name it as one of the most innovative series of all time, but in its own way, it was every bit as important to the development and evolution of the American sitcom as Seinfeld and The Simpsons had been. Without Drew Carey, Family Guy might not have grown into such an absurd show in its later seasons. It really changed how people regard and judge the modern sitcom, and it definitely belongs on your list of downloads the next time you log into your movie download service.

It could have just been another formulaic sitcom. Many comedians, they get a TV deal so the first thing they do is create just another family sitcom. The blue collar dad, the football widow wife, the kids (usually a daughter and a son) and the wacky neighbor. The Drew Carey Show, while still being more or less based on the comedian's act, also took the sitcom in a new direction.

Like Seinfeld, the show abandoned the idea of formulaic plots to take things in its own direction, focusing on a man who is always on the verge of a mid-life crisis and who experiences real existential dread at his situation in life, what it all means and whether or not he'd be happier if he'd just leap off a bridge and end it all already.

The show also made a lot of artistic strides as a sitcom, such as the "World Keeps Turning" intro, the live episodes and various other tricks they used to keep the show fresh.

By the end of the series, Carey was making something like a million dollars an episode but, sadly, the ratings were starting to drop and the show had to be canceled, even though it did garner a loyal following who would always make sure that they were at home after work in time to watch it.

The most refreshing thing about the show really was that its focus wasn't on the same thing as every other show. No football widow jokes, no stories about the son borrowing the car without asking. The characters are easier to relate to because they don't feel like generic television characters.

It's something of an acknowledgement that family can mean "You and your friends", that family can be defined however you choose to define it, and that the mom, dad and kids aren't the only backbone of family in the United States, and furthermore, that for family to only possibly mean dad, mom and kids is really excluding so many other real families from inclusion in what it means to love the people around you.

And of course, Lewis and Oswald may be the two funniest comic relief characters of the nineties... Well, after Cosmo Kramer, you could say. - 42531

The History Of Horse Racing At Del Mar

By Ross Everett

Though it is sometimes overshadowed by more famous tracks back East like Churchill downs and Belmont Park, Del Mar Racetrack in Southern California has a rich and fascinating history. Located 20 miles north of San Diego and known for its iconic slogan "Where The Surf Meets the Turf", Del Mar has not only hosted the best horses and jockeys on the planet but a 'who's who' of show biz elite.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club was founded in the mid'30s, and they immediately turned their attention to building a world class horse racing venue. The names that were instrumental in the creation of Del Mar include a whos who of American entertainment--most notably Bing Crosby, Oliver Hardy (of Laurel and Hardy) and Jimmy Durante. At the time the facility opened thoroughbred horse racing was the second most popular sport in America behind major league baseball, and Del Mar's show biz roots further helped secure its place as an important stop on the racing circuit.

The starpower drawn to the course was unprecedented. Bing Crosby himself greeted patrons at the gate on opening day, and during the late'30s and early'40s it became a place to be seen for Hollywood A-listers and those who aspired for celebrity. In addition to known gambling enthusiasts like W.C. Fields, Edgar Bergen and Red Skelton, the Del Mar patrons during that time also included some of the top female stars of the era including Ava Gardner, Paulette Goddard and Dorothy Lamour

Del Mar was the site of the'38 match race between Seabiscuit and Ligaroti. Seabiscut won the $25,000 winner take all challenge by a nose, and this race set Del Mar betting and attendance records and remains one of the most famous races in history. The racing at Del Mar continued to flourish until the start of WWII, when the track went 'dark' for racing. It was used at times by the military for, among other things, a training ground for Marines and later a production facility for bomber parts.

After the war Del Mar didn't miss a beat, and reopened the day after Japan surrendered to Allied Forces in Tokyo Bay. That day drew over 21,000 fans to the park and set a new wagering record of over $950,000. The track flourished during the post war economic boom years, and improved transportation between the major urban centers in Southern California--along with a new crop of stars including Mickey Rooney, Jimmy Durante and Desi Arnez, Jr.--kept the track in the limelight.

The annual race meet at Del Mar remains a highlight of the summer to this day. Del Mar remains one of the top tracks in the country, and have recently upgraded their facility with a state of the art grandstand and was one of the first tracks to install a new synthetic racing surface. - 42531

Pro Football Flashback: Favre Leads Minnesota To Rout Of Cowboys

By Ross Everett

When legendary quarterback Brett Favre announced his return to the NFL from what has become a seemingly annual flirtation with retirement, many second guessed the Minnesota Vikings' decision to sign "The Gunslinger". On Sunday, Favre and the Vikings answered those critics in the best way possible-with a lopsided 34-3 beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys. Favre threw 4 touchdown passes in the victory and the Vikings' defense sacked Dallas QB Tony Romo six times in the blowout.

NFL football betting fans also cashed tickets on the Vikings as -3 point home favorites. This was the shortest pointspread of the divisional playoff weekend and many thought that Dallas' momentum would carry them to victory. The 37 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 45.

After the contest, Favre boasted that a playoff run was a large part of his motivation to return to NFL action:

""This is what I came back for. Probably the most fatigued I got today was celebrating. I feel like I'm playing the same way. I have the same enthusiasm. As long as I'm out there, the enthusiasm and the passion that you see is real. And I know the guys feed off of that. Fans enjoy that, because it is real and genuine. Today was like this season: It's been wonderful."

Sidney Rice caught three of Favre's touchdown passes:

"Same ol' Brett. He's doing thing he's done since he first came in the league: moving around, getting the ball out, breaking tackles and even running down the field and throwing blocks. That just shows you how big of a heart he has."

Head coach Brad Childress mixed up a bunch of metaphors as he took a swipe at the prognosticators who picked Dallas to win:

"The Tasmanian devils were coming from Dallas that were about to bombard the state of Minnesota and run through us like Sherman through the South. All of us felt it quite palpably."

Cowboys' QB didn't have much to say in defeat:

"Any time you come in with the expectations and goals we set and don't accomplish them, No. 1, it's frustrating. Right now, it's just hard to think the season is over."

Cowboys' head coach Wade Phillips had a similar take:

"It's like the elevator falling from the top. It's tough when it's over. If you don't win it all, you have not reached your goal."

The Vikings will now head to New Orleans for Sunday's NFC Championship game against the Saints. Minnesota is a +3' point road underdog with the total set at 52'. The winner will advance to the Superbowl to take on the winner of the New York Jets/Indianapolis Colts contest. - 42531

Miami Beats Bucs To Remain Undefeated In NFL Preseason Play

By Ross Everett

Success in the NFL mandates that even when teams aren't playing their best they need to find a way to win. After spotting the Bucs a 6-0 lead, Miami used a late first half field goal and scored the only touchdown of the second half to comeback for the 10-6 win. The victory improved Miamis preseason NFL record to a perfect 3-0 while Tampa Bay dropped to 1-2.

A starting QB battle in Tampa was the biggest storyline of the game and veteran Byron Leftwich appears to have gained the edge over Luke McCown. Bucs coach Raheem Morris has indicated that hell be making a decision soon, though he refused to show his cards in postgame media comments:

"Obviously you want somebody to jump up and take it. We'll find out when we go back, look at the tape and evaluate this thing."

McCown had a rough night, with two sacks and no points scored. He gave a verbose no comment on his status as starter:

"It's not for me to say. ... My part in it is preparing every day, being the best I can be and getting better from my mistakes. As long as I feel like I'm doing that, then I'm OK."

Leftwich, meanwhile, was 9 of 17 for 100 yards and came up big on several third down completions. He had very little to say about the 'QB controversy' and instead focused on his performance:

"Hopefully, I'm the guy. I felt good. I missed a few, but I hit a few also. Luckily for me on the ones I missed, I made plays on the following play to get those first downs."

Bucs running back Cadillac Williams returned to action after major knee surgery seven months ago. Afterwards, he said the knee problems of the past few years are currently not an issue:

"The knee is not an issue to me. ... I feel great. I'm just loving what I do."

Dolphins QB Chad Pennington said that its hard to take much away from a strange game like this one. The game had several delays due to rain and lightening, the longest a 45 minute stoppage:

"It was a very odd game for us, as far as the rain delay, a lot of stoppages of play and things like that We were able to come out get a score before halftime and get a score after the half. We'll build on that. We'll be critical of ourselves and make sure we don't let a win overshadow what we need to do to get better."

The Dolphins will conclude their NFL preseason play next Thursday against the Saints at New Orleans. Tampa Bay will host Houston next Friday in their final preseason contest. - 42531

Cheap Holiday Deals Are Out There

By Wayne Bromiley

If you are looking out for Cheap Holidays and Cheap Holiday Deals, it pays to be savvy and shop around for what is out there. Where you are going and how many people are going can affect the price of the deal but if you are sharp you can get the best possible deal.

The first thing to check is what you get for your money. For example, you may want to get travel insurance. This is advisable especially flying with a budget air travel company. Check if you are covered by an official regulator, especially in the instance of the company going bust or any possible delays.

When booking a holiday the advice is either to book very early or very late. Earlier booking will get you a cheaper deal and give you more time to organise your trip and compare prices. With later deals you can often get cheaper prices up to eight weeks before you travel. Either way, it is worth shopping around to see what is available.

Recent problems have highlighted the frustration and difficulty of being stuck when on holiday. It may be an idea to get long term cover rather than with the airline. Like any service, it is advisable to shop around for the best possible policy to suit your own individual needs.

The first thing to look at is where you intend to travel. Some places have favourable exchange rates and these are often attractive places to go to. Given recent financial problems a lot of places will be glad of the extra trade, so it is worth keeping an eye out for discount bookings. If possible, booking earlier will ensure you get a better deal. It will also give you more time to prepare and therefore less stress on the day you travel. On the other hand, it is also possible to get cheaper deals on last minute flights, sometimes up to eight weeks before travelling.

When on holiday it is important to be wary of hidden charges. When using your phone, international calls can prove very expensive. If you are accessing the internet on a smart phone that can also prove deceptively costly. Send texts instead of phone calls and keep internet use to a minimum.

Remember to keep an eye out for hidden charges. Ask about booking fees, taxes and make sure you are clear on the weight limits. When packing make sure you buy travel sized toothpaste, deodorant and so forth. Be brutally selective when packing. For example, if you are going on a beach holiday you can usually buy a beach ball there, so packing that is pretty pointless and takes up unnecessary space.

If you are smart and prepare enough in advance you can save yourself a lot of money and your holiday really can prove both cheap and cheerful! - 42531

A Review Of Forrest Gump A Tom Hanks Hit Moive

By Lance Serrano

Forrest Gump, released in 1994, ended up becoming one of the most successful movies of the 20th century and was based on a 1986 book of the same name written by Winston Groom. The movie starred Tom Hanks, Robyn Wright Penn, Gary Sinise and Sally Field.

Although the movie had some pre-production troubles with casting and finding a director who was prepared to make the movie, it ended up winning seven Oscars and grossing $677 million. It became an instant hit and gave birth to a number of movie quotes that have entered popular language even to this day.

The storyline centers on Hanks' character Forrest Gump. Gump is from Alabama and although he has a low IQ and is considered throughout his childhood to be simple, he manages to live an entirely amazing life. The twists and turns of his life see him present at some of the sixties, seventies and early eighties most important events and meeting highly influential people from politics to pop culture.

At the opening of the movie Gump is sitting at a bus stop and gets chatting to a woman waiting there and recounts events from his extraordinary life to the incredulous woman. The first part of his fascinating journey begins when he is offered a football scholarship at the University of Alabama. From there he enlists in the U. S Army and goes to Vietnam where he becomes a war hero who is later released on medical leave.

After university he enrols in the U. S Army and is sent to Vietnam where he befriends Bubba who will influence his life in a number of ways. Gump becomes a war hero after rescuing many of his platoon, but is off on medical leave for some time. During his convalescence he takes up ping pong and is sent as a national champion to Maoist China. He is decorated by the U. S President with the medal of honor and then becomes a successful businessman.

While on medical leave from the U. S Army he takes up ping pong and ends up touring Maoist China as a national champion. He achieves some fame and ends up rubbing shoulders with John Lennon on a chat show. While he is living his life, he is motivated by his love for childhood friend Jenny. Jenny, played by Robyn Wright Penn, is a damaged soul who is the perfect woman in Gump's eyes and he wants to save her and make her his wife.

Both the book and film are an interesting mix of irony, humor and poignancy. The film will make you laugh, cry and feel fondness for your fellow man and that is probably the secret of the film's immense success. When you finish the movie you are left feeling that we can all be a part of something great and that perhaps by living more simply in ourselves we can achieve more in life.

Forrest Gump is an entertaining and beautiful movie that has become one of the biggest success stories of Paramount Pictures and Hollywood. Hard to believe when you consider that Robert Zemekis was the third director the movie was offered to and the role of Gump was also turned down by several other Hollywood heavy weights before Tom Hanks decided to take it on. - 42531

A Short Synopsis Of The Movie Saving Private Ryan

By Manuel Chang

By reading over an article such as this one, you are likely looking to learn a little more about what could possibly have been one of the best films to have been released in 1998, "Saving Private Ryan". There is a lot to learn about this movie in general, but the main things that you should know will be revealed within this article along with a brief plot synopsis.

It is no surprise that the man behind all of the action of this impressive film was none other than one of the most decorated directors of all time: Steven Spielberg. From his impressive feats to bring emotion to the audience through visual displays unlike anything they had ever seen before, this film does not disappoint.

In fact, it features one of the most graphic and impacting opening sequences that might have ever been documented up until that point concerning a war film. This is done through a soldier's eye view of the storming of the beaches at Normandy. To put it mildly, this is does not give a skewed perception of this. For nearly thirty minutes, the audience has a front row seat to the hell of war, seeing what the actual soldiers likely saw on D-Day.

After this opening sequence, you are properly introduced to the main character of the piece, Captain John H. Miller. He is given a task to take himself and his company to locate a paratrooper named Private James Ryan. In war torn Europe, this is about as simple as finding a needle in a haystack, especially since the company that Ryan is with was severely scattered from one another in a failed drop.

The reason they are trying to find Private Ryan is because his other three brothers in the Army had all been killed in action and the Army felt that he deserved to go home to his family. Needless to say, the company is divided on whether or not this is actually worth all the trouble to find Ryan, let alone watch him get a ticket home.

You get to know each and every one of the men in the company through various conversations that they have about their lives before the war, and their plans for when the war is finally over. When they reach Ryan and deliver the news, he still insists he remains at his post long enough to hold a key bridge in Allied control. He refuses to leave the company that he is with until he knows this key bridge is secure and not able to be used by the Germans.

This is a blatant representation of war. This is the full range of emotions that someone in World War II might have experienced. You will cry along with them, laugh with them, celebrate with them, and fear for them when they fear for themselves. This film is littered with incredible performances, like Matt Damon as Private Ryan, Tom Hanks as Capt. John Miller and Tom Sizemore as Sgt. Mike Horvath.

If you cared to learn more about Saving Private Ryan, than this article should have given you a great introduction to this film and given you a reason to watch it if you haven't. While there are so many things to appreciate about this movie, you will likely appreciate something unique and special as so many have. - 42531

The History Of Chicago's Pump Room Restaurant

By Ross Everett

Long a hangout of A-list celebrities, the Pump Room Restaurant in Chicago is still 'hopping' in the 21st century. The restaurant, memorialized in Frank Sinatra's classic "Chicago", was one of the first high level restaurants to open in Chicago after the Prohibition era. The eatery has seen countless celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Ronald Reagan, John Barrymore and countless others. For a while, it's luster faded somewhat as the dining scene in Chicago led by Charlie Trotter passed it by.

The Pump Room opened in'38 under the ownership and management of Ernie Blyfield. Blyfield's inspiration for the name and ambiance of his restaurant was an 18th Century London pub frequented by celebrities and nobility, including Queen Anne. The 'Pump Room' moniker came from the hot drinks 'pumped' into the cocktails of its customers.

Blyfied's Chicago Pump Room took off immediately, and its most sought after table--'Booth 1' may have been the most desired spot of any dining establishment in the country for a time. Booth 1 was occupied by Sinatra and cronies like Jilly Rizzo, Judy Garland and daughter Liza Minnelli, Clark Gable, John Barrymore as well as Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

Blyfield died in'50, but the Pump Room remained a Chicago hot spot and hosted a new era of superstars including Mel Brooks, Beverly Sills, Paul Newman, Robert Redford. More recently, Michael J. Fox, Eddie Murphy and Mick Jagger have made appearances. A funny story involves former Genesis drummer Phil Collins, who was refused entry for not wearing a jacket. The incident was commemorated in the title of his next solo album No Jacket Required which has since sold over-- million copies worldwide and launched Collins into solo superstardom. Following its release, the Pump Room sent Collins an apology"and an appropriate jacket so that the incident wouldnt be repeated.

The Pump Room experienced a revitalization in the late'90's when it was purchased by a large restaurant management group. They spent a lot of money to renovate the facility, overhaul the menu and hire a top flight staff. While the Pump Room's golden era trade mark flaming food served on a sword was a tragedy of city fire codes, the menu is now on par with any in the city serving a sophisticated interpretation of classic American cuisine. In addition to the revamped cuisine, the Pump Room upgraded its wine offering and expanded the bar area.

Current Executive Chef Nick Sutton has continued the restaurant's tradition of excellence. The big draw of the Pump Room, however, remains the amazing sense of history that the dining room offers. The realization that a who's who of civilized American culture from Bogart and Clark Gable to Sinatra and Jackie Gleason broke bread in the room is a pretty amazing vibe. The good news is that the Pump Room again offers the quality of food and service worthy of such icons, and is a victory for culinary excellence amid the national infestation of mediocre chain restaurants. - 42531

You Can Now Find Legal Movie Download Sites And Buy Online Safely

By Delia Watson

If you have been looking for quite some time to find legal movie downloads from a large database of movies, you probably had little success. However, legal movie downloads do indeed exist, and finally the movie companies have started to get their act together and are getting into the movie download market.

It was quite understandable why many people use to find pirated movies. It was often just because of convenience rather than saving the costs of buying movies. Buying movie downloads online is not particularly expensive, and indeed you should be able to save quite a lot of money.

Legal movie downloads and a very viable alternative. There are many legal movie download sites which offer a large selection of choices. No matter what your taste in movies, you should be able to find something which suits you. To be honest, any respectable movie download site database will have just about every movie ever published including a wide range of older movies and foreign movies.

You will need a high speed unlimited broadband connection in order to download movies on a regular basis. This should not be a problem for most of us, but it is worth checking out before you start downloading movies. Even the most modest connections should allow you to download at least a few movies per month.

The convenience is also a very welcome change. No longer do you have to go all the way to the local video store only to be disappointed. If you have slightly diverse tastes in movies, then you will probably find that in the average video store you can't buy most foreign movies, or older, or more unusual movies.

If you have monthly download limits, then you want to pay attention to this. Most monthly download limits will easily allow you to download a few movies a month, but if you don't have a monthly download limits you can download as much as you want, which is ideal. This is even truer if you are getting high definition movies, which are much bigger in file size.

You will also want to pay attention to the formats. The most popular format is DivX. You will find that just about every site that sells online movie downloads will sell the movies in this format but there may well be a choice. Windows media video is also a popular choice, but be aware that this is not quite as versatile and may not be compatible with as many viewing options.

Another factor that you should pay attention to is the formats. Since even with a broadband connection, it does take some time and bandwidth to download a movie, you want to make sure that it is going to play on everything you want it to play on.

Movie downloads are probably the best and most versatile way to get movies these days. With legal movie downloads now available you can download with confidence. - 42531

Los Angeles Painting Lessons - Stained Glass Painting Approaches And Risks

By Clara Berta

One of the topics in Los Angeles Painting lessons is glass painting. It is referred to painting on the surface of a sheet of glass being included in a stained glass work. This kind of painting, which is actually closer to drawing than painting, was done to add details for instance faces and folds of fabric that could hardly be added with traditional lead lines. It was also used to cover up portions of stained glass works to ensure that light was kept from shining through.

There are several significant forms of conventional stained glass paints, including vinegar trace paint, matt paint, silver stain, and oil based paints.

* Vinegar trace paint

This paint, which is dark and totally obstructs out the light in the areas where it is carried out, is often times used for figure or design lines. It is relatively heavy and must be mixed with water, vinegar, and gum arabic to use. Gum arabic, which helps the paint stick to the glass, is generally bought in powder form and need to be mixed with water or alcohol just before using.

* Matt paint

Matt paint, which runs on the base of either water and gum arabic or water and vinegar, is a lot easier to make use of than vinegar trace paint. It may be applied thickly or thinly and can even be blended thoroughly and stippled or worked with another brush to furnish it an interesting consistency. Some artists even apply it using their fingers to produce more unusual outcomes.

* Silver stain

Silver stain, which is supplied in colors of red, yellow, and orange, will get its name from the existence of silver nitrate in the stain. Following firing, it turns golden, not silver-colored. It is in contrast to paint in that it actually transforms the color of the glass, rather than simply covering it with a dark line or wash.

* Oil-based stained glass paints

Some great benefits of oil-based glass paints are that they are available in more colors, are less difficult to use, and are not affected by general atmospheric situations. The major downside of these paints is that they tend to be less consistent in application; though colors could be blended like regular oil paints, they do not always merge easily or completely and at times fire unevenly.

Stained glass has a number of risks linked to the procedure, yet fortunately, each one is readily avoided with some basic precautions. Little cuts from the glass are to be expected; keep bandages handy. Large or serious cuts are infrequent and usually occur when dealing with or moving the glass; not while working with it. A Full Synopsis Of The Film The Departed

By Katharine Schroeder

Released in two thousand six, the departed is one of the conventional mafia police war movies, but this one has a twist. The story is based on the rivalry between the Irish American mafias and the police and this time there are actually two agents who are busy in double crossing their organizations. One does it for the bad guys and the other for the good ones.

The film plot is very strong and is circling around the concept of human betrayal, greed and intimacy feelings all conjugated under the fight of the law with lawlessness. Normally most of us witness brilliant police officers joining the crime ranks in order to spy on the lawless mongers but this time these mongers prepare a great defense in shape of their spy within the law agency troops.

Billy is basically depicted as the central good cop character whose family connections with the mafia land him in the job of spying on the cartels and the bad guys. He is quick enough to capitalize on his prevalent connections within the mafia and gains unsurpassed respect as a mob leader. This helps him greatly in getting the gist of all the criminal planning being done and helps him tip off the fellow cops in order to stop the execution of those plans.

Collin Sullivan, the mafia man in the police, on the other hands is as sharp and cunning as Billy and quickly moves to higher positions within the Police special investigation units. His double role is appreciated because this is one factor that makes this film different from other mafia movies. His affiliation with the wrong side of the law makes him the only leading character in the movie that attracts the critics as well as the general film audience.

As the film progresses, it becomes evident to the mafia and police chiefs that they have black sheeps within their lineups. This is the point where the movie seriously gains some momentum and both the double agents start to unveil the identity of each other in order to stay clean in their records. This is the moment when the human emotions comes in full play and the choices left with both the double agents is either to turn themselves in or to play their mates and colleagues into the shackles of treachery.

The last half of the movie is something worth looking forward too. Although it might not be on the most action filled thrillers but the intensity and depth of the drama is absolutely worth watching. In these scenes Billy and Collin move toward a head to head collision based on the Collins discovery that Billy is actually working for the cops and is about to turn the whole gang in.

The final scenes of the movie show Billy trailing Collin in order to arrest and reveal his true identity to the police department. The intimacies of all these times make Billy ask Collin to take the immunity offered by the police department in case he was apprehended. The final round comes when Billy and Collin end up in a scuffle with Collin killing Billy.

The departed is a classic action and drama flick that focuses yet again on making truth, honesty, and good deeds as the final winner. There are a lot of moments within this movie that can make you grasp your breath due to the suspense and drama. All in all, it is one of the best flicks ever when we talk about two thousand six releases. - 42531
