A Short Synopsis Of The Movie Saving Private Ryan

By Manuel Chang

By reading over an article such as this one, you are likely looking to learn a little more about what could possibly have been one of the best films to have been released in 1998, "Saving Private Ryan". There is a lot to learn about this movie in general, but the main things that you should know will be revealed within this article along with a brief plot synopsis.

It is no surprise that the man behind all of the action of this impressive film was none other than one of the most decorated directors of all time: Steven Spielberg. From his impressive feats to bring emotion to the audience through visual displays unlike anything they had ever seen before, this film does not disappoint.

In fact, it features one of the most graphic and impacting opening sequences that might have ever been documented up until that point concerning a war film. This is done through a soldier's eye view of the storming of the beaches at Normandy. To put it mildly, this is does not give a skewed perception of this. For nearly thirty minutes, the audience has a front row seat to the hell of war, seeing what the actual soldiers likely saw on D-Day.

After this opening sequence, you are properly introduced to the main character of the piece, Captain John H. Miller. He is given a task to take himself and his company to locate a paratrooper named Private James Ryan. In war torn Europe, this is about as simple as finding a needle in a haystack, especially since the company that Ryan is with was severely scattered from one another in a failed drop.

The reason they are trying to find Private Ryan is because his other three brothers in the Army had all been killed in action and the Army felt that he deserved to go home to his family. Needless to say, the company is divided on whether or not this is actually worth all the trouble to find Ryan, let alone watch him get a ticket home.

You get to know each and every one of the men in the company through various conversations that they have about their lives before the war, and their plans for when the war is finally over. When they reach Ryan and deliver the news, he still insists he remains at his post long enough to hold a key bridge in Allied control. He refuses to leave the company that he is with until he knows this key bridge is secure and not able to be used by the Germans.

This is a blatant representation of war. This is the full range of emotions that someone in World War II might have experienced. You will cry along with them, laugh with them, celebrate with them, and fear for them when they fear for themselves. This film is littered with incredible performances, like Matt Damon as Private Ryan, Tom Hanks as Capt. John Miller and Tom Sizemore as Sgt. Mike Horvath.

If you cared to learn more about Saving Private Ryan, than this article should have given you a great introduction to this film and given you a reason to watch it if you haven't. While there are so many things to appreciate about this movie, you will likely appreciate something unique and special as so many have. - 42531

The History Of Chicago's Pump Room Restaurant

By Ross Everett

Long a hangout of A-list celebrities, the Pump Room Restaurant in Chicago is still 'hopping' in the 21st century. The restaurant, memorialized in Frank Sinatra's classic "Chicago", was one of the first high level restaurants to open in Chicago after the Prohibition era. The eatery has seen countless celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Ronald Reagan, John Barrymore and countless others. For a while, it's luster faded somewhat as the dining scene in Chicago led by Charlie Trotter passed it by.

The Pump Room opened in'38 under the ownership and management of Ernie Blyfield. Blyfield's inspiration for the name and ambiance of his restaurant was an 18th Century London pub frequented by celebrities and nobility, including Queen Anne. The 'Pump Room' moniker came from the hot drinks 'pumped' into the cocktails of its customers.

Blyfied's Chicago Pump Room took off immediately, and its most sought after table--'Booth 1' may have been the most desired spot of any dining establishment in the country for a time. Booth 1 was occupied by Sinatra and cronies like Jilly Rizzo, Judy Garland and daughter Liza Minnelli, Clark Gable, John Barrymore as well as Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

Blyfield died in'50, but the Pump Room remained a Chicago hot spot and hosted a new era of superstars including Mel Brooks, Beverly Sills, Paul Newman, Robert Redford. More recently, Michael J. Fox, Eddie Murphy and Mick Jagger have made appearances. A funny story involves former Genesis drummer Phil Collins, who was refused entry for not wearing a jacket. The incident was commemorated in the title of his next solo album No Jacket Required which has since sold over-- million copies worldwide and launched Collins into solo superstardom. Following its release, the Pump Room sent Collins an apology"and an appropriate jacket so that the incident wouldnt be repeated.

The Pump Room experienced a revitalization in the late'90's when it was purchased by a large restaurant management group. They spent a lot of money to renovate the facility, overhaul the menu and hire a top flight staff. While the Pump Room's golden era trade mark flaming food served on a sword was a tragedy of city fire codes, the menu is now on par with any in the city serving a sophisticated interpretation of classic American cuisine. In addition to the revamped cuisine, the Pump Room upgraded its wine offering and expanded the bar area.

Current Executive Chef Nick Sutton has continued the restaurant's tradition of excellence. The big draw of the Pump Room, however, remains the amazing sense of history that the dining room offers. The realization that a who's who of civilized American culture from Bogart and Clark Gable to Sinatra and Jackie Gleason broke bread in the room is a pretty amazing vibe. The good news is that the Pump Room again offers the quality of food and service worthy of such icons, and is a victory for culinary excellence amid the national infestation of mediocre chain restaurants. - 42531

You Can Now Find Legal Movie Download Sites And Buy Online Safely

By Delia Watson

If you have been looking for quite some time to find legal movie downloads from a large database of movies, you probably had little success. However, legal movie downloads do indeed exist, and finally the movie companies have started to get their act together and are getting into the movie download market.

It was quite understandable why many people use to find pirated movies. It was often just because of convenience rather than saving the costs of buying movies. Buying movie downloads online is not particularly expensive, and indeed you should be able to save quite a lot of money.

Legal movie downloads and a very viable alternative. There are many legal movie download sites which offer a large selection of choices. No matter what your taste in movies, you should be able to find something which suits you. To be honest, any respectable movie download site database will have just about every movie ever published including a wide range of older movies and foreign movies.

You will need a high speed unlimited broadband connection in order to download movies on a regular basis. This should not be a problem for most of us, but it is worth checking out before you start downloading movies. Even the most modest connections should allow you to download at least a few movies per month.

The convenience is also a very welcome change. No longer do you have to go all the way to the local video store only to be disappointed. If you have slightly diverse tastes in movies, then you will probably find that in the average video store you can't buy most foreign movies, or older, or more unusual movies.

If you have monthly download limits, then you want to pay attention to this. Most monthly download limits will easily allow you to download a few movies a month, but if you don't have a monthly download limits you can download as much as you want, which is ideal. This is even truer if you are getting high definition movies, which are much bigger in file size.

You will also want to pay attention to the formats. The most popular format is DivX. You will find that just about every site that sells online movie downloads will sell the movies in this format but there may well be a choice. Windows media video is also a popular choice, but be aware that this is not quite as versatile and may not be compatible with as many viewing options.

Another factor that you should pay attention to is the formats. Since even with a broadband connection, it does take some time and bandwidth to download a movie, you want to make sure that it is going to play on everything you want it to play on.

Movie downloads are probably the best and most versatile way to get movies these days. With legal movie downloads now available you can download with confidence. - 42531

Los Angeles Painting Lessons - Stained Glass Painting Approaches And Risks

By Clara Berta

One of the topics in Los Angeles Painting lessons is glass painting. It is referred to painting on the surface of a sheet of glass being included in a stained glass work. This kind of painting, which is actually closer to drawing than painting, was done to add details for instance faces and folds of fabric that could hardly be added with traditional lead lines. It was also used to cover up portions of stained glass works to ensure that light was kept from shining through.

There are several significant forms of conventional stained glass paints, including vinegar trace paint, matt paint, silver stain, and oil based paints.

* Vinegar trace paint

This paint, which is dark and totally obstructs out the light in the areas where it is carried out, is often times used for figure or design lines. It is relatively heavy and must be mixed with water, vinegar, and gum arabic to use. Gum arabic, which helps the paint stick to the glass, is generally bought in powder form and need to be mixed with water or alcohol just before using.

* Matt paint

Matt paint, which runs on the base of either water and gum arabic or water and vinegar, is a lot easier to make use of than vinegar trace paint. It may be applied thickly or thinly and can even be blended thoroughly and stippled or worked with another brush to furnish it an interesting consistency. Some artists even apply it using their fingers to produce more unusual outcomes.

* Silver stain

Silver stain, which is supplied in colors of red, yellow, and orange, will get its name from the existence of silver nitrate in the stain. Following firing, it turns golden, not silver-colored. It is in contrast to paint in that it actually transforms the color of the glass, rather than simply covering it with a dark line or wash.

* Oil-based stained glass paints

Some great benefits of oil-based glass paints are that they are available in more colors, are less difficult to use, and are not affected by general atmospheric situations. The major downside of these paints is that they tend to be less consistent in application; though colors could be blended like regular oil paints, they do not always merge easily or completely and at times fire unevenly.

Stained glass has a number of risks linked to the procedure, yet fortunately, each one is readily avoided with some basic precautions. Little cuts from the glass are to be expected; keep bandages handy. Large or serious cuts are infrequent and usually occur when dealing with or moving the glass; not while working with it. And soon you are familiar with handling glass, it may be a good idea to wear gloves. Break the glass away from your body. Wear eye protective equipment when grozeing, and grinding.

You can only acquire lead poisoning by ingesting the lead. Meaning - do not eat it! Do not eat, drink or smoke cigarettes while handling the lead. When soldering, remember to be inside a properly ventilated location, as flux fumes are very toxic.

Los Angeles Painting lessons see that all one requires for this art could be the interest to paint, some imagination, and lots of patience. You can go online for designs for glass painting, wherein you can try out different types of paintings. When the skills of glass painting have been mastered, you can also test one's hand at stained glass. Glass paintings are excellent gifts, and because they are homemade, they're appreciated much more. - 42531

Eventually, he created a grid plan for it and introduced Prospect Avenue, which will eventually be known as Hollywood Boulevard. A Full Synopsis Of The Film The Departed

By Katharine Schroeder

Released in two thousand six, the departed is one of the conventional mafia police war movies, but this one has a twist. The story is based on the rivalry between the Irish American mafias and the police and this time there are actually two agents who are busy in double crossing their organizations. One does it for the bad guys and the other for the good ones.

The film plot is very strong and is circling around the concept of human betrayal, greed and intimacy feelings all conjugated under the fight of the law with lawlessness. Normally most of us witness brilliant police officers joining the crime ranks in order to spy on the lawless mongers but this time these mongers prepare a great defense in shape of their spy within the law agency troops.

Billy is basically depicted as the central good cop character whose family connections with the mafia land him in the job of spying on the cartels and the bad guys. He is quick enough to capitalize on his prevalent connections within the mafia and gains unsurpassed respect as a mob leader. This helps him greatly in getting the gist of all the criminal planning being done and helps him tip off the fellow cops in order to stop the execution of those plans.

Collin Sullivan, the mafia man in the police, on the other hands is as sharp and cunning as Billy and quickly moves to higher positions within the Police special investigation units. His double role is appreciated because this is one factor that makes this film different from other mafia movies. His affiliation with the wrong side of the law makes him the only leading character in the movie that attracts the critics as well as the general film audience.

As the film progresses, it becomes evident to the mafia and police chiefs that they have black sheeps within their lineups. This is the point where the movie seriously gains some momentum and both the double agents start to unveil the identity of each other in order to stay clean in their records. This is the moment when the human emotions comes in full play and the choices left with both the double agents is either to turn themselves in or to play their mates and colleagues into the shackles of treachery.

The last half of the movie is something worth looking forward too. Although it might not be on the most action filled thrillers but the intensity and depth of the drama is absolutely worth watching. In these scenes Billy and Collin move toward a head to head collision based on the Collins discovery that Billy is actually working for the cops and is about to turn the whole gang in.

The final scenes of the movie show Billy trailing Collin in order to arrest and reveal his true identity to the police department. The intimacies of all these times make Billy ask Collin to take the immunity offered by the police department in case he was apprehended. The final round comes when Billy and Collin end up in a scuffle with Collin killing Billy.

The departed is a classic action and drama flick that focuses yet again on making truth, honesty, and good deeds as the final winner. There are a lot of moments within this movie that can make you grasp your breath due to the suspense and drama. All in all, it is one of the best flicks ever when we talk about two thousand six releases. - 42531
